Week 6 Action & Highlights

Tuesday Night

As the Bowls3Five action intensifies on Sky Sport NZ, another two thrilling tie-break finishes saw week six open with a bang.

The first of two match-ups saw the Stoke Thunder continue their rise up the table, topping the Hinuera Heat 7-3, 3-6, 3-0 in an entertaining fixture all round.

The final game saw another game of two halves play out with the reigning champion Pt Chevalier Pirates overpowering the youthful Stokes Valley Vipers’ trio, 10-4 in set one, before losing 7-1 and 1-0 in the tie break.

Tune in tomorrow and Thursday night for more action from 6pm on Sky Sport NZ (Ch.59), or catch the replays and highlight shows throughout the week (check schedule for times).

Wednesday Night

In the first game of the night, nothing could separate the Hinuera Heat and Elmwood Park Saints in set one, though a spirited effort in the second set saw the Heat take the spoils, 4-4, 5-3.

With the Saints dropping points, Stoke Thunder had the opportunity to move two games clear at the top of the table – a chance they duly took as they defeated the Stokes Valley Vipers in straight sets, 4-3, 11-3.

The final action of the evening saw the Royal Oak Rockets continue their rampant form in the competition, posting their fifth consecutive win courtesy of a tie-break victory opposite the Gore Rams, 8-2, 2-3, 2-0.

Tune in tomorrow night for the final installment of week six on Sky Sport NZ (Ch.59), or catch highlight reels and replays at scheduled times throughout the week (check Sky guide for details).

Thursday Night

Ending the action for week six, the Gore Rams stepped up to take a straight sets win opposite the Parajacks, 6-4, 7-3, before going on to lose a tie-break finish up against the Elmwood Park Saints in their back-to-back fixtures.

Meanwhile, it will now be nervous times ahead for the Parajacks – dropping their second game of the night in straight sets against the Royal Oak Rockets, who with the combination of Mike Galloway, Martin Dixon and Philomena Akaruru have now clocked up their sixth consecutive win in the competition, taking the victory 7-6, 6-5.

As the final week of the round robin series nears closer, all eyes will be on which side can top the table and automatically advance to the Grand Final. Presently, Stoke Thunder remain top with 27pts, Elmwood Park Saints second on 24pts and both the Stokes Valley Vipers and Royal Oak Rockets sit joint third on 21pts.

Tune in to Sky Sport NZ (Ch.59) next week from 7pm on Tuesday to catch all the action as we move closer to Finals Week. Remember, if you’ve missed any of this week’s bowls, be sure to catch the highlight shows and replays at scheduled times throughout the week.
